Walk-up printing
For card office staff
Someone is standing at the desk. Find them, photograph them, hand them a card. Everything happens on the Walk-up screen, without moving away from it.
The Walk-up screen
Section titled “The Walk-up screen”- Find the person. Scan or type their ID number, or search by name. Two characters is enough to start; if exactly one person matches, Enter opens them. People with no photo are flagged in the results. If they are not in the system yet, New card holder creates them with just a name, an optional ID number and their type. Details can be filled in later.
- Check the record. The screen shows their photo and details, with Edit details beside them. Two warnings matter here. If the person already holds a live card, printing again replaces it and the old card stops being valid. An inactive record cannot be printed at all; reactivate it first.
- Take the photo. Use the webcam or upload a file, on this screen. A photo taken by staff at the desk is accepted automatically: you saw the person in front of you, which is the review.
- Print. Depending on your organisation’s card delivery settings you will see Print card, Print card and digital ID, and Send digital ID. The buttons stay disabled until the photo is approved and the record is active, so a card can never be produced from an unapproved photo.
When a card comes out wrong
Section titled “When a card comes out wrong”Misprints happen, and the system expects them. While today’s print for a person exists, a Reprint misprint button appears. It asks for an optional note, marks the spoiled card, and prints a replacement at no charge. Reports show misprints separately, so free reprints never look like extra sales.
Destroy the spoiled card. If it carried door access, it may still open doors until the replacement is encoded and the old credential is withdrawn.
The daily walk-up order
Section titled “The daily walk-up order”Every card printed at the desk is grouped into a single order for that day, created automatically the first time the Walk-up screen is used and numbered like any other order. This is for billing; the Orders list hides these daily orders so they do not crowd out real batch orders.
The day ends at midnight. If cards from an earlier day were never finished (a printer stopped at 4:55 pm, say), they appear in the Unfinished from earlier days table on the Walk-up screen and stay open until every card is printed or the order is cancelled.
Reading the Walk-up tiles
Section titled “Reading the Walk-up tiles”| Tile | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Printed today / Digital today | Cards handed over so far |
| In progress | Sent to the printer, not yet confirmed out |
| Needs attention | Spoiled cards waiting for their free reprint |
| Today table | Every person served today: state, card serial, who printed it, and when. Check here whether a card actually printed, without leaving the screen |
